The Cheshire police have arrested nurse Lucy Letby and charged her with killing eight babies and attempting to kill ten others between 2015 and 2016 while she was working in Countess of Chester Hospital in Chester, Northwest England.

An internal inquiry was made when medics found that premature babies were dying due to heart and lung failure, and were overly impossible to resuscitate, making the death rate of infants ten percent above average.

According to The Daily Mail, a report also found that the infants had unusual blotches on their arms and legs after their deaths.

Cheshire Police said in a statement, Lucy Letby, 30, has been arrested multiple times in the past but was released due to insufficient evidence. She was arrested again Tuesday and has since been accused of committing eight murders and ten attempted murders that occurred between June 2015 and July 2016 in the neonatal ward of Chester Hospital.

The police have indicated that she will appear in court Thursday.

Chief Inspector of Cheshire Police Paul Hughesman said, “In July 2018, a healthcare professional was arrested on suspicion of murder in relation to the deaths of eight babies and the attempted murder of six babies at the neonatal unit at The Countess of Chester Hospital, and then was released on bail pending further inquiries."

He added, “In June 2019, the healthcare professional was rearrested on suspicion of murder in relation to the deaths of eight babies and the attempted murder of six babies.”

She was arrested another time in connection with attempted murder of three other infants.

Following the previous arrests, the nurse’s Chester home, worth GBP 180,000, was searched by police along with her parents' home in Hereford.

The Chester University graduate was once the face of a multi-million dollar fundraising campaign for the neonatal unit at the hospital.

Despite her allegations, Letby’s friends described her as “professional," “dedicated,” and say she “wouldn’t hurt a fly."
