Voter participation in the 19th parliamentary elections was 6.1 percent lower than 2016's 18th parliamentary elections said the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Election Commission Khaled Kalaldeh.

Kalaldeh said it was expected for the number of participants to be less than the 2016 parliamentary elections, due to the coronavirus crisis.

A total of 1,386,749 votes were cast upon closure of the ballot boxes Tuesday, according to the Independent Election Commission.

A total of 60 candidates violated election campaign guidelines in the 19th parliamentary elections Tuesday.

Thirteen cases of non-compliance were transferred to other relevant authorities for the appropriate action to be taken, some of which involve identity theft.

Jordan had three options to choose from as ways to deal with the coronavirus crisis: maximizing the role of the constitution, bringing back the dissolved parliament, or resorting to emergency laws, said Kalaldeh.

The decision to extend the voting period was made based on recommendations by polling station managers.

For the first time, the percentage of female voters is lower than that of males.
