Citizens Monday called on the government to intervene and set fixed prices for fresh produce following a huge increase in prices of fruits and vegetables ahead of the post-elections lockdown.

The price of tomatoes and cucumbers exceeded JD 0.8 and reached JD 1 in some stores in Amman. Some shop owners decided not to sell certain products such as cauliflower, as they believe customers will not buy them due to the price.

Citizens in Irbid have also witnessed a significant increase in prices since the beginning of the week. They expressed their frustration with the rise in prices of basic vegetables such as tomatoes, which is being sold for JD 0.9 in some stores.

The lockdown will begin at 10pm Tuesday and end at 6am on Sunday.
