Palestinian prisoner Maher al-Akhras, held by the Israeli occupier in administrative detention, ended his hunger strike Friday after 103 days.

Akhras began his hunger strike immediately after his arrest in July in order to protest the Israeli occupier policy of administrative detention, which allows Palestinians to be held with no charges.

He was arrested because of his alleged ties to the Islamic Jihad.

The father of six previously refused to stop his strike after the Israeli occupier’s High Court denied his immediate release. Akhras was not convinced he would actually be released after his four-month detention order ended on Nov. 26.

But the Palestinian Prisoners Club said Akhras recieved “a firm commitment [by the occupation] not to renew his administrative detention,” leading him to end the hunger strike.

Akhras’ wife, Taghrid, confirmed the news saying Maher has “stopped his hunger strike after 103 days.” Earlier on Friday, she had reported that Maher was on the verge of death.

The Prisoners Club said Akhras will spend the rest of his detention “receiving treatment in the hospital.”

There was no immediate comment from Israeli authorities.

Currently, the Israeli occupier holds 355 Palestinians in administrative detention, two of them minors.
