Wednesday, French authorities gave the green light to companies to begin operating 5G cellular networks to start, after completing a tender for the distribution of frequencies.

The French telecoms regulator, ARSEP, announced that the tender result was 2.8 billion euros (3.3 billion dollars) from four operating companies.

She added that the 5G networks of these companies could start their commercial operations Nov. 18, but indicated that it is likely, due to some official procedures, that companies will be able to launch the service between Nov. 20-30.

The 5G technology represents a huge leap in the speed of wireless data transfer, which paves the way for progress in the field of self-driving cars, augmented reality, health care and many more, as this technology provides the ability of sensors to communicate with servers in an almost instantaneous manner.
