Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Jason Neo Bourne, opened fire at their family home and kidnapped the boy who later died during an officer-involved shooting.

Police officers arrived to the scene of the crime to find the bodies of two females and a 16-year-old female injured. The teenage girl was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

The police located the armed suspect hiding behind a vehicle, where an exchange of fire took place when the suspect held his gun to boys head, resulting in the killing of the suspect and the boy.

According to a letter by the Skaggs Catholic Center, Diana was a substitute teacher and her son was a seventh grader at the Saint John the Baptist Middle School. She also taught Zumba to faculty members. Her husband and eldest son were not involved in the incident, it read.
