At least 22 people were killed and many others were wounded Monday in an attack by gunmen on Kabul University, which ended after hours of fighting with the security forces, according to an Interior Ministry spokesman.

"Three people participated in the attack. One of them detonated explosives at the beginning, and the security forces killed two of the attackers," Tariq Erian told AFP.

Daesh later claimed responsiblity for the attack.
