Liquor stores, bars and nightclubs will shut down Thursday in Amman and Irbid, announced the Governors of the Capital and Irbid Tuesday.

The reason behind the closure is that Thursday is an official holiday in celebration of al-Mawlid al-Nabawi, the Prophet's Birthday.

The Governor of Irbid Radwam al-Etoum said the decision was made out of respect for the "the sanctity of this day for Muslims."
