A total lockdown should not be imposed across the Kingdom for more than one day, said the head of the coronavirus portfolio in the Ministry of Health, Wael Hayajneh Tuesday. Hayajneh said the Friday lockdown is not considered a full lockdown.

Additionally, he said the number of COVID-19 infections in Jordan is high but stable.

The government is working to increase the capacity to receive more COVID-19 patients in public hospitals by studying more scenarios including building field hospitals or renting private hospitals, Hayajneh said.

Hayajneh said the government cannot reduce the number of coronavirus infections if citizens do not abide by the required health and safety measures.

There are approximately 100 COVID-19 investigation teams in Amman, and the number in other governorates is a bit less, he said.

Hayajneh added the Ministry of Health has about 593 ventilators in its Intensive Care Unit (ICU) rooms, 30 percent which are already in use, noting that hospitals are still capable of handling the outbreak.
