The health sector in Jordan is preparing for the worst due to the huge increase in the number of new coronavirus cases and deaths, said the head of the coronavirus portfolio, Wael Hayajneh Monday.

Additionally, Hayajneh said the number of COVID-19 cases in Jordan is expected to reach 3,000 or more per day.

Hayajneh added the public health sector is facing a shortage in the number of experts working in Intensive Care Units (ICUs). However, Hayajneh said there is enough capacity in public hospitals regarding the number of beds and equipment required to treat coronavirus patients.

Private hospitals, however, are overcrowded.

Jordan has entered the nationwide spread stage of the coronavirus crisis, Hayajneh said. Since September, the Kingdom has confirmed more than 40,000 new coronavirus cases.
