Labor Ministry updates list of sectors most affected by coronavirus

The Ministry of Labor has updated the list of sectors most affected by the coronavirus crisis Saturday for the month of October. The list was updated based on Defence Order number six, said the Minister of Labor, Maen Al-Qatamin.

This update came after the government's new COVID-19 decisions regarding the total lockdown on Fridays and extending the curfew hours, said Al-Qatamin.

The sectors are: 

  • Tourist establishments licensed under Tourism Law and the regulations and instructions issued pursuant thereto, with the exception of establishments within the boundaries of Aqaba’s Special Economic Zone.

  • Employment establishments licensed under the Labor Law and the regulations issued thereunder.

  • Facilities for the recruitment and employment of domestic workers, licensed under the Labour Law and the regulations issued thereunder.

  • Facilities for air, land and sea transport for individuals, aircraft catering facilities, aircraft maintenance services, and duty-free shops at airports and border crossings.

  • Public transport facilities.

  • Facilities for organizing parties, festivals, conferences, and exhibitions.

  • Wedding hall facilities as well as wedding and event supplies rental facilities.

  • Sports and recreational club facilities, swimming pools and oriental baths.

  • Professional and technical training academies and centres.

  • Recreational places and public parks.

  • Cinemas and theatre installations.

  • Private sector museums.

  • Leather and knitting industries.

  • Dead Sea products.

  • Agencies for university services.

  • Visa issuing offices.

  • Clearance companies, with the exception of branches operating in Aqaba’s Special Economic Zone.

  • Establishments operating in the publishing and distribution sector.

  • Restaurants and cafes.

  • Shops in street markets.

  • Wood and furniture industries.

  • Groceries, markets, and stores that sell meat, poultry, fish, vegetables, fruits, dairy products, cheese and eggs.

  • Establishments for the trade of clothing, shoes and accessories.

  • Bakeries.

  • Newspaper facilities.

  • Sports and recreational club facilities, swimming pools and oriental baths.

  • Health club facilities.

  • Taxi companies.

  • School, kindergarten and nursery facilities.

  • Driving centers.
