Customs Department seizes nine tons of nuts and three tons of cardamom

The anti-smuggling patrols seized nine tons of nuts and three tons of cardamom that were smuggled into the Kingdom, said the spokesperson for the Customs Department Wednesday.

The smuggled goods were caught in two trucks in Amman carrying large amounts of cashews and pistachios.

The case has been transferred to the Customs Attorney General.

The Customs Department aims to combat illegal commercial activities to protect citizens from economic and food insecurity.

The spokesperson explained that such goods should be tested in laboratories and approved by several official departments including the Ministry of Agriculture and the Jordan Food and Drug Administration.
