The weekend lockdown could be on Fridays only, a governmental source told Roya on Tuesday.

In addition, the government might also change the current curfew hours, the source added.

However, these decisions are still being discussed by the government, taking all details into consideration, including its effectiveness regarding improving the COVID-19 situation in Jordan.

Previously a member of the National Committee for Epidemics Firas Al-Bakri said that the weekend lockdown could be cancelled.

Bakri told Hayat FM that the lockdown needs to be longer in order to be effective and that the two-day lockdown has not been effective in changing the health situation in the Kingdom.

The Minister of State for Media Affairs, Ali Al-Ayed, said the government will re-evaluate and assess all forms of lockdown to determine their effectiveness.

Ayed said this is important to protect citizens' health, as well as limit its negative effects on people's economic situation and social lives.

The government is aware of the public's anticipation to learn more about the upcoming decisions regarding lockdowns, he said.

The government is currently in the final stages of evaluation and will announce the plan to be implemented by the end of the week.
