Wael Hayajneh has been appointed the head of the coronavirus portfolio, announced the Jordanian Prime Minister, Bisher Khasawneh, in a press conference at the Prime Ministry on Wednesday.

The government will cooperate with the media in dealing with the coronavirus crisis and related rumours.

The Minister of Health, Nathir Obeidat, said an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases is expected and Jordan's healthcare system is strong and able.

We aim to increase the capacity and capabilities of the local healthcare system, he added.

The world is still suffering from the effects of the coronavirus crisis and the global number of cases continues to rise.

Without the cooperation of citizens, we will not achieve the desired results regarding the coronavirus crisis.

The National Centre for Epidemic and Communicable Diseases Control will work on preventing, treating and studying COVID-19.

Members of the centre's committee include the Minister of Health, the Minister of State for Legal Affairs, the Minister of State for Prime Ministry Affairs, Azmi Mahafzah, Firas Al-Hawari and Wael Hajayneh.

The Minister of State for Media Affairs, Ali-Al-Ayed, said the government will hold a weekly press conference on Wednesday to update citizens about the local COVID-19 situation.
