The Jordanian Society of Forensic Sciences has proposed treating coronavirus deaths just like deaths caused by other diseases, announced a source from the National Committee for Epidemics on Monday.

The society submitted supporting studies and scientific evidence asking the committee to reconsider the way COVID-19 deaths are being handled.

The committee's current protocol has been put in place due to the lack of sufficient scientific studies about coronavirus and is currently considering the society's proposal.

If a new protocol was to be implemented, the committee will ensure compliance with health and safety measures related to washing and shrouding bodies, taking into consideration local traditions.

The bodies would be buried in normal cemeteries without additional construction guidelines.

After the first death was recorded in March, the General Iftaa' Department has allowed dealing with bodies of deceased COVID-19 patients as martyrs.
