International Day of the Girl Child is celebrated on October 11.

The world celebrates the day under the theme "My Voice, Our Equal Future".

This day helps teach girls  new skills and discover ways to eliminate gender-based violence, according to the United Nations.

The Jordanian Women Solidarity Institute said the United Nations considers girls as the forefront of global movements and directs them to tackled issues such as child marriage, inequality in education, gender-based violence, climate change and self-esteem issues.

The United Nations confirmed that there are 1.1 billion girls around the world dealing with these types of challenges on a daily basis.

UN figures provide evidence of discrimination against females, as nearly one in four girls between the ages of 15 and 19 years are neither working nor enrolled in education or training programs, in comparison to one in 10 boys of the same age group.

The report showed that girls suffer from high levels of poverty, as 435 million women and girls will be living on less than USD 1.9 per day by 2021 and 47 million of them will have fallen into poverty due to the coronavirus crisis.

One in three women is exposed to physical or sexual violence, and levels of violence against them
have increased because of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially domestic violence, the report added.
