Canadian researchers have begun clinical trials to use the tuberculosis vaccine to fight coronavirus, according to CTV Television Network.

The University Health Network in Toronto announced the first Canadian TB trial for a vaccine known as Bacillus Calmette–Guerin(BCG) has begun on more than 3,600 front-line workers, including medical staff, paramedics, police officers and firemen.

Researchers found that the BCG vaccine led to reducing viral respiratory infections by 80% after being administered, said the researcher, Alexandre Zlotta.

Zlota added people who have received the vaccine had their immune system boosted.

In addition, doctors have noticed that many countries with high rates of BCG vaccinations have shown lower rates of coronavirus, Zlota added.
