Two-day total lockdowns could be imposed on certain governorates or the Kingdom as a whole, if the number of cases continues to rise, said a member of the National Committee for Epidemics, Bassam Hijjawi, on Tuesday.

A total lockdown beyond that is not an option right now and the government will only impose one-week lockdowns in coronavirus hotspots.

Hijjawi said a total lockdown would be an option if the number of positive cases continue to rise and reaches thousands.

He called for shutting down any insitution that does not abide by public safety measures, and detaining citizens who do not wear facemasks and do not comply with health and safety measures.

He pointed out that the number of coronavirus cases in Jordan did not reach its peak, he said.

The National Committee for Epidemics looks at the weekly number of COVID-19 cases, not daily, he added.
