Passing of Kuwaiti Emir Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah officially announced

The passing of Kuwaiti Emir Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has been officially announced on Tuesday. 

The Kuwaiti Emir has been receiving treatment at a hospital in the United States, since July.

It has been previously reported by Kuwaiti news agencies that Sheikh Sabah arrived safely to the United states seeking treatment and was in a stable health condition. 

Kuwaiti television has interrupted its service to broadcast verses from the Holy Quran.

He has been ruling Kuwait since the beginning of 2006 and died at the age of 91.

Sheikh Sabah was born in al-Jahra, Kuwait on 1929. In 1954 he became a member at the Supreme Executive Committee, which served as the cabinet of Kuwait before the country's independence.

He was Kuwait's first Minister of Information and its second Minister of Foreign Affairs.

He served as a Foreign Minister for 40 years between 1963 and 2003 – when he became the Prime Minister.
