The Egyptian authorities stopped two children from getting married and intervened while the bride, who is under 15 years of age, was getting ready at the beauty salon, according to the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood.
The Secretary General of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, Sahar Al-Sunbati, said: "The council's helpline received an urgent call from a parent reporting that the father of a 15-year-old girl intends to marry her off to a 17-year-old boy."
The council took all the necessary measures to stop this marriage as Egyptian law criminalizes the marriage of girls under the legal age of 18.
