Epidemics Committee: Too early to reconsider closure of mosques, churches, schools and restaurants

It is too early to reconsider the closure of mosques, churches, schools, as well as restaurant and café halls, said the spokesperson for the National Committee for Epidemics, Nazir Obeidat, on Roya’s Nabd Albalad on Sunday.

In response to rumours that have been circulating about the issue, he said “ It is necessary to wait for two weeks to see the effectiveness of the decision on the spread of the virus.”

The possibility to extend the closure will be discussed by the National Committee for Epidemics, after assessing the COVID-19 situation and submitting recommendations to the government.

The decision to shut down mosques, churches, restaurant and café halls, and schools aims to reduce the number of coronavirus cases.

It also makes it easier for  health investigation teams to determine the source of infection in places where large numbers of people gather.

Obaidat emphasized that there are no right or wrong procedures; the correct measures vary from one country to another and depend on the country’s data.
