Jordanian students were offered modern quaratine rooms and were not threatened to lose their scholarships by the Algerian authorities, said the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dhaif Allah Al-Fayez, on Roya's Nabd Albalad on Wednesday.

This came after students moved their matresses to the streets and slept outside in protest to institutional quarantine.

Students were Demanding to isolate themselves at home and claimed theat the government threatened to suspend their scholarships, he said.

The Algerian authorities have provided modern quarantine facilities for the Jordanian students, free of charge, that comply with the local health and safety measures.

They were simply asked to abide by the health and safety measures imposed by the Algerian authorities, Al-Fayez added.

The Ministry had made an effort to arrange for a flight to transport the students to Algeria, who were received at the airport by the Jordanian consul in Algeria and the cultural advisor on Monday, added Al-Fayez.

Following-up on Jordanian expatriates studying abroad is one of the Ministry's main priorities

An estimated 700 Jordanian students have received scholarships from the Algerian government and are currently studying medicine in Algeria.

As for other Jordanian expatriates stranded in Algeria, regular flights have been scheduled and tickets are available for purchase online for those who match the conditions set by the government, said Al-Fayez.

As for Jordanians who are unable to cover the travel costs, Himmat Watan Fund will continue to cover their expenses, added Al-Fayez.

The number of Jordanians who have returned to Jordan so far has exceeded 35,000 by operating "air, sea or land" flights, 3,000 of which have returned to the country with support from the Himmat Watan Fund, said Al-Fayez.
