Fifty-seven warnings have been issued against school buses for traffic violations, announced the Central Traffic Department on Monday.

These came after orders from the director of the Traffic Department, Salem Al-Shamaseen,  to monitor buses that transport students to ensure their safety.

The most common violation was expired licenses and "invalid vehicles”, he said.

A total of 1,730 traffic reports were dealt with over the last 24 hours to maintain the flow of traffic and secure safe access for citizens.

A total of 301 traffic accidents, which resulted in 21 injuries and one death, were dealt with in Amman, said a representative from the Traffic Department, Abdul Majeed Zaidan.

In other governorates, 95 traffic accidents were reported, resulting in 10 injuries, said Zaidan.

As for other violations, there were 171 violations for running red lights, three for reckless driving and 35 violations for tampering with licence plates.

A wanted vehicle was seized after being reported seven times.

A school bus was stopped in Amman and the bus driver was found to have 11 complaints issued against him.

A vehicle traveling at a speed of 173 km/hr was seized on the desert road through an automatic control system, which was recently introduced in the External Patrol Department.
