Schools and students showed great commitment to health and safety measures during the first day of school, said the Minister of Education, Tayseer Al-Nuaimi, on Tuesday.

There were some cases of non-compliance, which the ministry will not tolerate and shall implement procedures to ensure full adherence to precautionary measures, he added.

The attendance rate during the first day of school was as expected and usual, said Nuaimi.

Nuaimi attributed this commitment to the awareness of students, staff and parents regarding the serious nature of the current exceptional circumstances in Jordan and the world, as a result of the coronavirus crisis.

He also expressed his appreciation for teachers’ efforts on the first day of school, which proves the ministry’s ability to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The aim is to preserve students' right to education in a healthy and safe environment, he said.

He also thanked parents for their cooperation and commitment to the ministry’s instructions, and stressed the importance of continuing the educational process as planned.
