An inspection tour of one of the polling centres eligible for persons with disabilities was made by Prince Mired bin Raad bin Zeid, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, on Saturday.

His Highness was briefed on the centre’s facilities and the extent of the availability of accessibility requirements to ensure people with disabilities are able to vote, and to broaden their participation in parliamentary elections.

The visit comes as part of preparations ahead of the general parliamentary elections to be held in November.

Ensuring the effective and full political participation of people with disabilities on an equal basis with others, including the right and opportunity to vote in accommodated polling centres is of great importance, Prince Mired said.

The visit came as part of a series of visits to ensure centres conform to the Building Requirements Code for Persons with Disabilities. The findings will be issued in a report which will be submitted to the Independent Election Commission, to be announced in the coming days.
