The demand for bread doubled on Thursday ahead of 24-hour lockdown on Friday in Amman and Zarqa.

The head of the General Syndicate of Bakery Owners, Abd al-Ilah al-Hamwi, said “citizens bought bread to last them for two days” and there was no overcrowding or problems faced at bakeries.

The total lockdown began in Amman and Zarqa from 11pm on Thursday and will end at 11pm on Friday.

The government imposed the lockdown after an increase in positive coronavirus cases in Amman and Zarqa.
