The new local cases Jordan has been continuously recording are not considered to be a second wave, the spokesman for National Committee for Epidemics, Nathir Obaidat, said on Wednesday.

The main reason the number of local cases increased in the country over the past few weeks is due to the failure to tackle the virus at the border crossings, Obaidat said during an interview with Roya’s Nabd Albalad program.

Obaidat said Ramtha only recorded three new local COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, despite the fact a lot of people came into contact with the infected cases, which means things are still under control.

He said the coronavirus cases that were recorded at al-Omari Border Crossing on Wednesday, were transmitted during Eid al-Adha holiday, noting that there was complacency during that period.

People are concerned that Jordan is entering the second wave stage after it recorded 44 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, 43 from which are local cases.
