The government will cover the costs of new computers for between 12% and 16% of Jordanian public school students who do not have devices connected to the internet.

The threat of a second wave of COVID-19 to hit Jordan is the reason behind the decision to support students with distance learning.

A provision of JD 57,600,000 over a period of five years, starting with an instalment of JD 15,000,000 this year, was approved by the Council of Ministers in its session on Sunday. The remaining amounts will be accounted for by the Ministry of Education’s budget.

The purchase process will be carried out in instalments to reduce the financial burden on the country amid the coronavirus crisis.

This equipment is considered to be the Ministry of Education's property, which will be used to rebuild computer laboratories in schools after the COVID-19 pandemic is over.

Providing education to all students around the country is the government’s first priority, said the Minister of Education, Tayseer al-Nuaimi.
