Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Tuesday, the approval of the world's first vaccine against coronavirus.

"I have been informed that a vaccine against COVID-19 has been developed this morning for the first time in the world," Putin said during a meeting with members of the government.

"I know the vaccine works very effectively and constitutes stable immunity, and I repeat that it has passed all the necessary tests.”

He said that one of his daughters had been given the vaccine.

"I hope that we will be able to start great production of this vaccine in near future," said Putin.

However, the vaccination should be on a voluntary basis, he added.

The Russian Deputy Prime Minister said medical workers will be the first to benefit from the vaccine against coronavirus.
