The government is doing everything it can to protect public finances and prevent any misuse of funds, said Jordan’s Prime Minister Omar Razzaz.

He pointed out how transparency regarding spending public funds is key, while chairing a task force meeting on addressing public sector financial and administrative violations, on Tuesday.

The Prime Minister said it is important to increase regulation across ministries and institutions, and that the Audit Bureau of Jordan’s monthly review – launched in January – has already resulted in a reduction of violations.

State Minister for Cabinet Affairs, Sami Dawoud, who heads up the task force, said the Audit Bureau's monthly approach to reviewing finances instead of annually, had resulted in an average of eight to 10 issues per month, instead of hundreds.

The move from annual reviews to monthly began earlier in the year.

Identified violations are often transferred to the Jordanian Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission, to the judiciary, and to public funds to recover the sums involved, in addition to correcting administrative and technical violations completely and immediately, Dawood added.

The Audit Bureau chief Assem Haddad, said that there should be a joint effort between the government and the Audit Court to correct violations.

He added, such an effort will have a great impact on the size of the control on the volume of the audit outputs issued by the Audit Court, which amounted to 74 audit outlets for 39 governmental entities.
