Industrial estates have been badly affected by the coronavirus pandemic and Jordanian workers have faced bigger woes than foreign workers, head of Al-Hassan Investors Association Emad Al-Naddaf said.

While giving an interview on Roya’s Nabd Al-Balad Tuesday, Al-Naddaf said Jordanian workers were treated unfairly compared to foreign workers, who remained unaffected in matters relating to salaries and social security.

He said the Ministry of Labour did not consider the textile industry to be one of the sectors affected by the pandemic, adding the ministry did not follow up with investors.

Industrial affairs expert, Musa Al-Saket, said the recovery of the industrial sector depends on financial support being provided and taxes being lowered.

“Until today, there has been no study conducted to estimate the actual damage the pandemic has done to the industrial sector,” he said.
