Jordan will not be transitioning to a lower risk status after one local coronavirus case was recorded among the 15 new cases, the government said on Tuesday.

"After recording a local case today, the current epidemiological situation continues at a [moderate risk] level, and therefore there will not be a transition to a low-risk level unless no local cases are recorded for 10 consecutive days,” the government announced.

The local case had been in contact with another positive case in Amman and was in self-quarantine.

The same case had tested negative last week but, after retesting today, results came back positive.

The other 14 cases are Jordanians arriving from abroad, currently staying at hotels designated for quarantine purposes—13 from Saudi Arabia and one from Turkey.

Five patients being treated at Prince Hamzah Hospital were discharged on Tuesday.

A total of 5,647 laboratory tests have been conducted, bringing the total number of tests to 477,448.

The Ministry of Health reiterated the need to adhere to preventive measures, wear masks, social distancing, and use the mobile application Aman to be notified when coming in contact with someone with coronavirus, and contribute to the detection of COVID-19 cases.
