Stolen coins worth thousands of dinars have been returned to their original owner by Karak Police.

The old Canadian coins have been returned to an Iraqi archaeologist living in Karak who suffered a violent beating during the theft last week by a gang of four people from southern Jordan.

The archaeologist was based in Karak for research purposes. He has lived in the Kingdom for 10 years, having studied archaeology and ancient alloys, and was in the process of setting up a museum prior to the incident.

Following the robbery, a man fitting the description was found selling the coins in Amman and was arrested.

The remainder of the assailants remains at large however most coins have been returned.
