The Petra Development and Tourism Regional Authority (PDTRA) decided on Tuesday, June 9, to exempt Jordanians from entry fees to the ancient city until the end of the current year.

In a statement, the PDTRA Chairman, Suleiman Farajat, said that this decision was taken to encourage local tourism and attract Jordanian tourists to visit the city of Petra and enjoy its antiquities, the Jordan News Agency (Petra) reported.

"The exemption from the fees includes entry to Petra, use of tourist and health facilities and a visit to the Petra Museum," Farajat stated.

He added that the PDTRA discussed with representatives of the tourism sector in Petra the development of a tourist product that suits local tourists, finding new paths and providing promotional offers.
