The United States recorded 2,200 new deaths of the novel coronavirus pandemic in the last 24 hours, compared to 1,300 fatalities of the day before, according to a running tally by the Johns Hopkins University late Tuesday.
The new deaths bring the US COVID-19 death toll to 58,351 since the outbreak began there, while the number of confirmed cases has surpassed the threshold of a million, nearly one-third of the global total.
