The Lebanese government announced the closure of all schools, universities, and nurseries for a week as of Saturday, February 29, as a precaution measure against the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The announcement came after the number of confirmed cases in Lebanon has risen to four.

Minister of Education Tarek Majzoub called on all educational institutions including kindergartens, schools, high schools, vocational institutions and universities to close as of Saturday and until March 8.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in Lebanon have launched a campaign to implement preventive measures against coronavirus spreading and monitor its potential cases in the Syrian refugee communities in Lebanon, especially in
the Beqaa Valley.
