Nearly a week ago, the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) launched a campaign to feed stray dogs in eastern Amman in order to keep them away from residential areas.

Dogs were provided with meat not suitable for human consumption by a number of animal welfare field team members.

The news raised angry reactions among social media users, as people wondered why dogs weren't provided with cooked meat.

"Raw meat doesn't cause any harm to dogs, as they are able to digest it," veterinarian Dr. Mousa Al-Aqtsh told Roya today.

He added that raw meat also contains minerals that dogs need.

However, sniffer dogs are provided with a different type of food and may be fed with cooked food, as they do special training and they need a certain type of food, Dr. Al-Aqtash noted.
