Visitors to Petra up by 37% in January 2020

The number of foreign and local visitors to Jordan's ancient city of Petra, jumped by 37% in January 2020, compared to January 2019.

A report issued by the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) indicated that the number of visitors last month reached 75,308, including 69,413 foreigners and 5,895 Jordanians and Arabs.

The report also indicated that in January 2019, around 56,160 tourists visited the city, including 50,676 foreigners and 5,484 Jordanians and Arabs, with an increase of 34%.

The number of foreign visitors to the Rose City for January of this year doubled by 100% compared to the same month of 2018, when the number of foreign visitors reached 34,460, while the number of visitors of different nationalities in the same month was 40,460.

Head of the PDTRA, Suleiman Farajat valued His Majesty King Abdullah II's interest in Jordan's tourism sector, stressing that all parties and entities in the public and private sector must make effort to enhance Jordan's competitiveness to attract Arab tourists to the Kingdom’s local tourist sites.

He added that the PDTRA works on improving the services provided to the visitors, especially since several projects will be launched this year in the city.

Farajat confirmed that the increase in the number of visitors during the past month promises that more tourists will visit the city this year.
