A cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Omar Razzaz decided on Sunday, January 19, to reduce sales tax imposed on 76 basic and food commodities in half, as of February 1, 2020.

The decision comes in fulfillment of the government's pledge during the discussions of the draft laws of the state budget and budgets of government units last week.

According to the decision, the sales tax on goods that were subject to a tax rate (4%) will be reduced to 2%, while the tax on goods that were subject to a tax rate (10%) will be reduced to 5%.

The decision to reduce the tax included basic commodities such as milk and cheese, kinds of vegetables and fruits, school supplies, stationery, cereals and other foodstuffs.
