Security forces have opened fire on protesters in the city of Nasiriya, southern Iraq, killing at least two people and wounding 47 others this morning, as weeks of unrest in Baghdad and some southern cities continues, according to medical sources.

Earlier on late Saturday, at least three protesters were killed and more than 40 others were injured in the city.

Demonstrators blocked five main bridges in Nasiriya and burned tyres outside public offices in anger.

Since the protests in Iraq began in October, more than 300 people have died and thousands more have been injured.

Iraqi protestors are demanding an end to corruption, more jobs and better public services.
