Some 2104 road accidents were recorded in Aqaba governorate since the beginning of 2019, resulting in 22 deaths and 734 injuries, according to Aqaba police chief Brig. Gen. Firas Saoub.

Saoub spoke during a ceremony to launch a traffic awareness campaign, under the motto "enough bleeding on roads" to spread the traffic culture and curb serious violations that cause accidents that take lives and cause property damage.

Saoub said the campaign aims to transmit the message for the various segments of society and the need for joint and collective work by all state institutions and the public to achieve the aspired goals of reducing accidents, stopping the loss of life and minimizing the economic costs that the national economy incurs.

The primary aim of this campaign, he said, is to rally efforts involving all parties and work together within plans and strategies to reduce accidents, adding that the campaign will continue for the next months, with emphasis each week placed on serious accidents and the publication of awareness materials and programs through media outlets and holding activities, meetings and seminars in cities across the governorates.
