Education Ministry announces amended scholastic calendar for public schools

The Central Planning Committee of the Ministry of Education approved on Tuesday, October 8, 2019, the amended scholastic calendar for public schools for the academic year 2019/2020 as follows:

  1. The first day of teaching in the first semester starts as of Sunday, October 10, 2019.
  2. Final exams for the first semester will be from Wednesday, January 22, 2020, until Saturday, February 2, 2020.
  3. Winter break will start on February 9, 2019, and end on Thursday, February 13, 2020.
  4. The first day of teaching in the second semester will start on Sunday, February 16, 2020.
  5. Final exams for the second semester will be from Thursday, June 4, 2020, until Monday, June 22, 2020.
  6. Finalizing school results and certificates will be on Tuesday, June 30, 2020.
  7. Summer break will start on Wednesday, July 1, 2020.

The Ministry determined the actual study days as per article 40 of the Education Law No. 3 of 1994, which stipulates that the actual study days during the school year range from 195-200 days.

Details of the amended scholastic calendar to make up for missed classes will be circulated to all education directorates.

The amended scholastic calendar was announced after Jordanian teachers staged a strike that lasted for almost a month, where they used to go to schools and refuse to give lessons to students.
