A bridge has collapsed this morning in Amman during the installation of precast concrete beams as part of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project.

For his part, Riyad Kharabsheh, head of the BRT project said that the collapse occurred during the installation of the fourth link to the bridge near Al Nasha intersection.

Kharabsheh added that the collapse has only caused material damage, with no human injuries reported.

Following the collapse, the Army Street in Amman witnessed heavy traffic jam, as the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) closed down the street until the GAM cadres remove the rubble and debris.

In addition, the roads from Downtown Amman to Al Nasha intersection, from Al Yarmouk Street to Al Nasha intersection, and from Al Mahatta to Al Istiqlal Street have also witnessed heavy traffic jam as road detours were made.

GAM had previously announced that the Army Street will be closed down for several days starting from 12 am to 6 am due to construction works that will be done as part of BRT project.
