The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) announced on Monday, July 29, 2019, that it received a $50 million donation from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In a statement issued by the agency on its website, Commissioner-General of UNRWA, Pierre Krahenbuhl, hailed the move, saying, "At a time when we are experiencing tremendous pressure, the remarkable generosity of the UAE sends a clear message that Palestinian refugees are not alone."

With this donation, UNRWA will go ahead with its 2019 programs as planned, especially in the fields of health services, education, and social services, the statement added.

Krahenbuhl pointed out that the UAE had donated $50 million last year, which allowed the agency to keep its 708 schools open.
