His Majesty King Abdullah, in a televised address on Sunday, expressed his best wishes to all Jordanians on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.

Following is the English translation of King Abdullah’s video message:

“In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

Prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Mohammad.

My fellow Jordanians,

Tomorrow, we welcome the holy month of Ramadan, the month of harmony, compassion, and good deeds.

In this month that all Muslims hold dear, the sentiments of our Islamic Ummah around the world are directed towards philanthropy, charity, and good deeds, in observance of God’s command: “O ye who believe! Bow down and prostrate yourselves, and worship your Lord, and do good, that haply ye may prosper.” (22:77)

As we begin the holy month, we take note of the Islamic values that should be reflected in our morals and deeds, at a time when our society needs them the most. We have indeed seen many community efforts and campaigns that embody these values, such as “Urdon Al Nakhwa”, which brought together dedicated national efforts calling for compassion, solidarity, and caring for orphans, the elderly, and all those in need.

Such goodwill campaigns translate our great Islamic values into action. They also instil a true sense of proactive and good citizenship. All who take part in these blessed efforts will be, God willing, greatly rewarded.

I call on you, my dear people, in this holy month, to channel your energies into charity and good deeds. Let us embody these great Islamic values to serve this country and its generous people.

We pray that God accept our fasting, worship, and our deeds, for He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

Wishing you success, and wishing you and Jordan a blessed Ramadan.

Peace, God's mercy and blessings be upon you.”
