Bakery Owners Syndicate President Abdul Ilah Hamawi said that it was agreed to determine the highest price of Qatayef of normal size, a type of middle-eastern pancake whose consumption skyrockets during the holy month of Ramadan, at JD 1 and 10 Piastres per kilogram.
Hamawi said in a statement to Roya on Saturday, May 4, 2019, that the other type of Qatayaf "Asafiri" (the smaller size), was set at a price of JD 1 and 400 fils per kilogram.
Hamawi pointed out that the volume of demand for bread during the holy month usually decreases by 25% when compared to the rest of the months of the year and when compared to the increased demand for other bakery products.
Hamwi revealed that the Bakery Owners Syndicate asked the Income and Sales Tax Department to exempt Qatayef from tax during the holy month of Ramadan so that its prices would be suitable for all.
