Balqis Bani Hani was able to break the shame culture and overcome several obstacles by opening the first women-only garage in Irbid governorate, north of Jordan.

Because of her will and determination, Balqis is now considered as the first Jordanian woman to become a mechanic.

“Female drivers feel more comfortable going to a women-only garage," Balqis said, adding that people’s reactions were positive and encouraging.
