Strict instructions for school trips after Dead Sea tragedy

The new instructions published in the Official Gazette require schools to take into account weather conditions before scheduling school trips.

The instructions forbade trips to flood streams, water pools, valleys, slopes, and dams, such as Wadi Mujib Dam, Wadi Shueib, King Talal Dam, Zarqa-Ma’een Dam, the Dead Sea, Al-Aghwar as well as forbidding any adventure and exploration trips.

The instructions called for a doctor or a nurse to escort each school trip, if possible. In addition to requiring vehicles to install tracking devices, front and rear cameras, in addition to a video recording and archiving unit, if possible.

The dates of school trips are to be scheduled for the length of one day only during the academic year as follows:

1. School trips shall be set between 21/3 to 15/5 during the second semester

2. Boys school trips are to be on Tuesdays and Thursdays

3. Girls school trips are to be on Mondays and Wednesdays

4. Mixed-gender private schools trips are to be from Mondays to Thursdays

5. Trips for primary schools (1st to 5th grade) are to be within the boundaries of the province

6. Dates of school tests shall be taken into consideration when planning for school trips
