Stronger air front to hit than expected, snow over highlands

As of Tuesday night, February 26, 2019, the Kingdom will be affected by the strongest weather depression since the beginning of winter season, causing a significant decrease in temperatures, with highs of 13 degrees, accompanied with relatively cold weather, and a slight chance of scattered rain showers, especially at night.

Rainfall is expected as of dawn and early Wednesday morning, which can be heavy at times and accompanied by thunderstorms and showers of hail.

Another drop in temperatures is expected on Thursday, with a chance of snowfall over areas exceeding 1000 meters above sea level, which might extend to lower areas after midnight.

Areas expected to witness snowfall are the following:

  • Highlands of Amman: including Khalda (1000 meters), Rabiyeh (1075), Tlaa Al Ali (1100 meters), Umm Al-Summaq (1020 meters), and Dahyet al Rasheed (1055 meters).
  • Highlands of Ma’an: including Shubak (1365 meters), Petra (1000 meters), Ma'an (1069 meters), and Ras Al Naqab(1570 meters).
  • Highlands of Karak: including Mutah (1180 meters), Karak (1000 meters), and That Ras (1628 meters).
  • Highlands of Tafilah: including Qadisiyah (1560 meters), Tafilah (1266 meters), Rashadiyya (1650 meters), and Basira (1100 meters).
  • Highlands of Ajloun: including Ras Munif (1150 meters) and Anjara (1000 meters).
