A letter issued by the Minister of Awqaf, Dr. Nasser Abu Al-Basal, revealed that the Minister had sent a request to the director general of the Jerusalem Waqf and the affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque regarding the implementation of the repair and maintenance of the building.
The Minister of Awqaf directed a study to the most appropriate uses of the Bab al-Rahma building with the aim of opening it permanently to be used as a library as well for the meetings of the Awqaf Council and a stop for His Majesty King Abdullah II to study under Imam al-Ghazali.
The Waqf council decided to re-open the prayer space at the Bab al-Rahma despite opposition from Israel, who originally sealed it off in 2003 during the second intifada.
